“Kiss” Movie Review
“Love, magic, and laughter—wrapped in one delightful package.”
Kiss, marking the directorial debut of choreographer Sathish, is a refreshing fantasy rom-com that blends quirky humor, youthful charm, and heartfelt emotions. Starring Kavin and Preethi Asrani in lead roles, the film is backed by Romeo Pictures Raahul and boasts a strong ensemble cast including Devayani, Kowsalya, Rao Ramesh, VTV Ganesh, RJ Vijay, and Shakthi. With music by Jen Martin, the movie creates a colorful, whimsical atmosphere that adds to its appeal.
The story opens with a creative animated prologue about a cursed king, setting a fantastical backdrop before moving into the present day. Here, we meet Kavin’s character, a young man deeply affected by his father’s (Rao Ramesh) infidelity, who has distanced himself from love. His life takes a magical turn when a dancer (Preethi Asrani) hands him a mysterious book bearing his name. This book grants him the unusual ability to foresee the future of couples who kiss, leading to both comic and emotional twists. Things take an intense turn when he glimpses the fate of his own girlfriend, raising the stakes and driving the narrative forward.
Director Sathish’s ambition to weave fantasy, romance, and comedy together is praiseworthy. While the animated backstory feels different, it sets the stage for the unique premise. The film’s first half offers plenty of light-hearted comedy, thanks to VTV Ganesh and RJ Vijay, keeping things breezy and entertaining. The interval block marks a shift, building curiosity and excitement.
The second half delivers the film’s emotional weight, focusing on relationships, choices, and redemption. Kavin stands out with a heartfelt performance, effectively portraying his character’s transformation. Preethi Asrani delivers a charming and layered act, showcasing her versatility after Ayodhi. Devayani’s impactful pre-climax scene adds depth, while Rao Ramesh and Shakthi bring solid presence to the narrative. Jen Martin’s background score enhances both fun and emotional beats, while the vibrant cinematography gives the rom-com a lively feel.
Kiss may not follow the typical rom-com formula, but its blend of magic, romance, and humor makes it an engaging watch. Sathish’s debut shows promise, and the film’s heartwarming performances and imaginative premise ensure it remains a delightful experience for fantasy-romance lovers.
