“Kenatha Kanom” Movie Review
Kenatha Kanom takes a charming and refreshing look at life in a drought-stricken village, offering a warm mix of humour, community spirit, and a touch of unexpected adventure. Set in a small village in the Ramanathapuram district, the film revolves around the residents’ desperate search for water, a struggle that many rural communities can instantly relate to. What begins as a simple mission soon turns into something far more surprising, giving the story an engaging twist.
At the centre of the film is Manivasagam, played by Yogi Babu, the village’s witty temple sculptor who never hesitates to deliver a sharp comeback. Known for his ability to blend humour with sincerity, Yogi Babu brings an easy charm to the role. After proving his ability to carry a film with performances like in Mandela, he once again anchors the narrative with confidence and natural comedic timing.
The film thrives on its colourful supporting characters. From a determined marriage broker trying to arrange an alliance in a village without water, to neighbours arguing over small debts and everyday issues, the ensemble cast creates an authentic rural atmosphere. These moments of light-hearted banter add warmth and relatability, making the village feel lively and real.
The story takes an unexpected turn when the villagers’ search for water leads to the discovery of a 66-million-year-old dinosaur fossil. The arrival of a government archaeologist brings new complications, transforming the quiet village into an important heritage site. This twist injects fresh energy into the narrative and pushes the villagers to think creatively about their future.
While the film follows a fairly straightforward path, its humour, grounded setting, and engaging characters keep the experience enjoyable. Complementing the mood is the music by Nivas K Prasanna, whose score adds texture and emotion to the story.
Overall, Kenatha Kanom delivers a pleasant and entertaining village drama that blends comedy, curiosity, and heart in a way that leaves viewers smiling.
