Karthik Subbaraj-Keerthy Suresh’s Dorothy wins standing ovation at Toronto Film Festival
Karthik Subbaraj’s upcoming Tamil film Dorothy has received a warm response at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, where the film had its world premiere.
Starring Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth, the film was screened in the Centrepiece section at Toronto’s Scotiabank Theatre.
Karthik Subbaraj attended the premiere alongside the principal cast and producers Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain. The screening concluded with a standing ovation from the audience.
Dorothy marks Karthik Subbaraj’s 10th directorial venture and is being presented as the first Tamil feature to premiere at TIFF in roughly a decade.
Producer Guneet Monga Kapoor described the Toronto screening as an especially meaningful occasion. She also thanked Subbaraj for entrusting the team with what she called a deeply human story and expressed appreciation for the cast, crew and production partners.
The film has another major musical highlight: it marks the first collaboration between Subbaraj and legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja.
Karthik Subbaraj has previously spoken about the significance of having Ilaiyaraaja’s music accompany the film’s journey to an international festival.
The movie’s 18-track soundtrack was earlier presented in Chennai through a live musical event, where musicians performed the score continuously for approximately 40 minutes.
Dorothy has been produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, with Jio Studios, Sikhya Entertainment and Dhammam Films backing the project. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 25.
