Kannagi movie review

Story:

Ammu Abhirami is a girl in her 20s, who meets prospective grooms on a suggestion from her conservative mother Mounika.

However, the grooms get rejected left, right and centre by her mother as she wants her daughter to lead a comfortable life.

Vidhya Pradeep is a married woman, who is fighting a divorce case in court.

Her husband and in-laws accuse her of being infertile to seek divorce. She believes in marriage and learns the truth during the court hearings.

Shaalin Zoya is an outgoing woman who doesn’t believe in marriage.  She is in a live-in relationship

Finally, we get to see Keerthi Pandian, who is in a relationship with an assistant director Yashwanth Kishore, trying to abort her baby.

How do these four characters lead their lives and do their lives converge at any moment? Let’s find out.

Analysis:

Director Yashwanth Kishore’s intention to make an empowering feminist film is worth appreciation.

The way in which the director has converged all the four stories at a point during the climax has come out really well.

With four different plots, the director takes the audience through for a emotional roller coaster.

All the four lead actors have all done given their best for their respective characters.

Keerthi does not have a lot of dialogues and lets her expression do much of the talking.

Ammu Abhirami has delivered a neat performance in her role.

Vidya Pradeep has portrayed the emotions of her character in a convincing manner.

Shaalin Zoya has tried to do complete justice to her role and it has come out well.

The movie is technically sound with Shaan Rahman’s music and Ramji’s camerawork.

Rest of the technical aspects are okay as well.

Rating: 4.2/5
