Kalki 2 starts, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan reunite after nearly 40 years

Veteran stars Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan have reunited on the sets of Kalki 2, marking their first collaboration in nearly 40 years.

The sequel has officially gone on floors in Hyderabad, and the sight of the two legends together has already set social media buzzing.

Confirming the reunion on his blog, Bachchan wrote, “And meeting up with the great KAMAL HAASAN we shall be working together after ages .. last in Giraftar (sic).”

Their previous collaboration was the 1985 film Geraftaar — a title still remembered for its powerhouse cast and box-office success.

The actor posted images from Hyderabad, offering fans a glimpse into the early days of filming. He also addressed his absence from his weekly ‘Sunday Darshan’, writing that work commitments kept him away. However, he assured the admirers that he would return soon. “Work first .. rest later,” he noted.

Two cinematic giants, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, sharing screen space after four decades isn’t routine casting, it’s history repeating itself.

Their earlier outing in Geraftaar also featured Rajinikanth and became one of the year’s biggest hits. For many fans, this reunion feels like a full-circle moment.

Kalki 2 is the sequel to the blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, which was released in 2024. Starring Prabhas in the lead, it’s a dystopian sci-fi epic inspired by Hindu scriptures.

The story of the film is set in a futuristic world, and follows a child believed to be the final incarnation of Lord Vishnu, a Hindu deity.
