Jana Nayagan receives CBFC clearance, set for July 24 release
After months of uncertainty, Jana Nayagan, the final film starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, has secured certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Industry sources said the film has been granted an A certificate, restricting its theatrical release to audiences aged 18 years and above. Originally planned for a Pongal release on January 9, 2026, the film’s certification process was delayed after it was referred to the CBFC’s revising committee. The prolonged review postponed its release by nearly seven months.
According to industry sources, the film is now expected to open in around 1,000 theatres across Tamil Nadu on July 24. Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film was first submitted to the CBFC in December 2025. After incorporating changes recommended by the examining committee, it was initially considered suitable for a U/A certificate.
However, the certification process stalled when a committee member reportedly raised objections, stating that certain scenes could affect public sentiments.
With the release of the censor certificate, the film is finally set to reach theatres later this month, ending a lengthy certification dispute that had also led the producers to seek legal intervention.
