Jana Nayagan opens strong, makes massive day-one collections
Chief Minister C. Josephy Vijay’s final film before his transition into full-time politics has opened to an impressive response at the box office, with Jana Nayagan witnessing packed theatres across Tamil Nadu and strong attendance in neighbouring Kerala and Karnataka.
After a record advance booking, the H. Vinoth directorial began its theatrical run with early morning shows, many of which sold out. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film collected an estimated ₹24.67 crore net in India by 7 pm.
The Tamil version accounted for the bulk of the earnings, benefiting from strong occupancy throughout the day. Morning shows reportedly recorded occupancy of more than 73%, particularly in major urban centres where several theatres ran to full capacity.
The dubbed versions, however, witnessed a comparatively muted response. The Hindi release earned around ₹73 lakh by the afternoon with low occupancy, while the Telugu version collected approximately ₹89 lakh despite registering better attendance than the Hindi release.
Trade analysts expect Jana Nayagan to comfortably cross the ₹50-crore net mark on its opening day, placing it among the biggest opening-day performers in Tamil cinema. While it may fall short of the opening collections recorded by films such as Leo, Coolie and 2.0, it is expected to outperform several of Vijay’s previous releases, including Beast and GOAT.
Worldwide, the film is projected to exceed ₹100 crore gross on its first day, joining a select group of Tamil films to achieve the milestone.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan marks Vijay’s final appearance on the big screen before focusing on his political career. Originally scheduled for a January release, the film was postponed following delays in obtaining certification from the Central Board of Film Certification.
The film features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain in key roles. The music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan and editing by Pradeep E. Ragav.
