Review of the film Iravin Vizhigal
Iravin Vizhigal presents a compelling and timely narrative that reflects the realities of today’s social-media-driven world. The film explores how the pursuit of online fame can push certain influencers—especially those active on platforms like YouTube and Instagram—towards extreme, sometimes dangerous behaviour. When one such content creator is mysteriously murdered, the story unfolds around the questions of who committed the crime and why. This central mystery keeps the audience engaged throughout, while the film’s title, meaning “Eyes of the Night,” becomes an apt metaphor for the hidden truths waiting to be discovered.
Mahendran, who plays Karna, makes a confident debut despite being relatively unknown. He delivers a grounded performance that suits the film’s mood. Neema Ray shines as the heroine, impressing with her charm and expressive acting, and she brings warmth and emotional depth to her role.
Director Sikkal Rajesh, who also appears in a negative role, delivers a striking performance reminiscent of SJ Suryah’s intensity. His portrayal enhances the screenplay, giving the conflict a stronger edge. Veteran actors Nizhalgal Ravi, Sisir Manohar and Cheran Raj further elevate the film with their experience, lending weight to crucial moments.
AM Asar’s music adds emotional value, with the song “Karuppu…” standing out for its soulful melody. Though the film opts for minimal background score, this choice works in favour of the gritty tone. Cinematographer Bhaskar enhances the visual quality with clean, well-composed frames, especially in night sequences, which are handled with admirable clarity. Editor R. Ram maintains a brisk pace, ensuring the narrative never drags.
Writer-director Sikkal Rajesh deserves credit for framing the film as both a thriller and a social commentary. His attempt to highlight the dangers of reckless online behaviour feels relevant, and the emotional climax—centred on sibling affection—adds an unexpected but touching dimension.
Despite minor shortcomings in presentation and budget constraints, Iravin Vizhigal remains a thought-provoking and timely film that resonates strongly with today’s digital generation. It is very much worth watching.
