Indian army thwarts multiple drone and munitions attack by Pakistan
The Indian Army “effectively repulsed” the multiple drone and munitions attacks launched by the Pakistani armed forces along the entire western border on the night of May 8-9.
The Army said that Pakistani forces resorted to “numerous ceasefire violations” along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
On Thursday, May 8, evening, Indian air defence units successfully intercepted at least eight missiles launched by Pakistan targeting key border areas in Jammu, including the strategically significant Jammu Airport at Satwari, defence sources confirmed.
All incoming projectiles, described by officials as “cheap rockets” similar in tactic to those used by the Palestinian terror group Hamas, were neutralised mid-air by India’s advanced air defence systems. The missiles were aimed at high-value locations such as Satwari (Jammu Airport), Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia.
Sources drew a striking comparison between the Pakistani Army’s actions and those of terrorist organisations, citing a recent meeting between Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Hamas operatives in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Alongside the missile barrage, several Pakistani drones were spotted attempting to infiltrate Indian airspace along the western border. The drones were promptly intercepted and destroyed by the Indian Air Defence System. One drone was reportedly seen crashing outside the Jammu Airport perimeter, according to eyewitnesses.
Shortly after the threat was neutralised, a sudden power outage enveloped Jammu city in darkness, accompanied by two loud explosions—likely the result of drone interceptions. Air raid sirens were activated across the city, warning residents to stay indoors as aerial activity continued. Flares lit up the night sky, and civilians watched from balconies as defence operations unfolded.
According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Defence Jammu, military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur were also targeted by Pakistani drones and missiles near the International Border.
“The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities, following established Standard Operating Procedures. No casualties or material losses were reported. India remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its citizens,” the PRO said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
