On the festive occasion of Pongal, Netflix made quite a splash on social media by unveiling a captivating lineup of eight Tamil films set to be part of its licensed content for the year 2024.
These highly-anticipated movies will have an initial theatrical release before they begin streaming on the platform.
Netflix seems to have adopted an aggressive approach in acquiring the streaming rights of big blockbusters in the southern cinema.
It already became the home of some of the biggest Tamil hits of 2023, including Leo, Thunivu and Maamannan. This year, the streaming giant has doubled down on its investments in Tamil talents in a bid to expand its subscriber base in the south.
“The viewing of South content on Netflix has increased by 50% YoY, and with the addition of these new films, we promise to make every night a blockbuster night for our members,” said Monika Shergill, VP – Content at Netflix, while sharing insights into the upcoming film roster.
Here is the complete list of films that are set to join Netflix’s library soon:
Vidaa Muyarchi, Maharaja, Revolver Reeta, SK21, Thangalaan, Indian 2, Sorgavasal and Kannivedi.
