India will become global leader in cruise tourism soon: Sarbananda Sonowal

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who oversees Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, stated that the Global Maritime India Summit, hosted by India for the third time in the last seven years, will further enhance the growth of the maritime sector. He pointed out that the sector has been on an upswing since 2014.

Sonowal also expressed optimism that India is well-positioned to become a global leader in cruise tourism, thanks to the ecosystem created by the government. India recently hosted the third edition of this significant maritime event in its financial capital from October 17 to 19. The summit generated substantial interest, with investment proposals amounting to Rs 10 lakh crore resulting from 360 initial agreements between companies from both the private and public sectors.

Sonowal stated, “I believe this particular global summit is going to add more dimensions to our growth in the sector. The transportation sector has witnessed transformation in the last nine and a half years, which is evident through its growth.”
