India reports 14,623 fresh coronavirus cases

India today logged 14,623 fresh COVID-19 cases, which is 12 per cent higher than yesterday. The country also reported 197 deaths over the last 24 hours. Overall, the cases and deaths have been on a decline.

With 13,058 fresh Covid infections logged in yesterday, it was India’s lowest daily rise in cases in 231 days.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 30,000 for 26 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 115 consecutive days now.

The active cases comprise 0.52 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.15 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

The country will soon have administered one billion COVID-19 vaccine doses, but the milestone masks a yawning gap between the number of people who have been fully inoculated and those that have had just one shot.
