India firmly rejects China’s attempt to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh

India on Tuesday said that it firmly rejects China’s persistent attempts at renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh and reasserted that the northeastern state will always be an integral and inalienable part of the country.

“China has persisted with its senseless attempts to rename places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. We firmly reject such attempts. Assigning invented names will not alter the reality that Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement issued by spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

The MEA statement came a day after Beijing released a fourth list of 30 new names of various places in Arunachal Pradesh.

The list of standardised geographical names in Zangnan, the Chinese name for Arunachal Pradesh which Beijing claims as part of south Tibet, was released on Sunday by the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs.

The official website of the ministry posted 30 additional names for the region.
