India and China set up Modi-Xi meeting ahead of BRICS summit
India and China are working towards a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping during Xi’s visit to India for the BRICS Summit, according to China’s foreign ministry.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing was prepared to approach relations with India from a strategic and long-term viewpoint.
She said the two countries should increase communication and cooperation while dealing with their differences appropriately.
Xi is scheduled to attend the BRICS gathering, where he will address the summit and hold discussions with participating leaders on international developments.
The proposed meeting with Modi could therefore provide an opportunity for the two sides to discuss the broader state of India-China relations alongside the wider issues dominating the summit.
