Income Tax raids carried out in 18 locations in Tamil Nadu

The Income Tax Department recently carried out extensive raids in Tamil Nadu as part of a nationwide crackdown on bogus tax deductions and a large-scale tax refund fraud.

The Income Tax Department launched multi-city raids across India, including Tamil Nadu, targeting individuals and entities allegedly involved in helping taxpayers claim fraudulent deductions under various sections of the Income Tax Act.

Reports indicate that more than 200 locations nationwide were under the scanner in this operation.

While not specifically stated as 18 locations in this most recent wave, the searches in Tamil Nadu were part of this broader investigation into a ₹500-crore tax refund fraud scheme, which involved fabricated income tax returns.

The raids covered various southern districts including Trichy, Pudukkottai, Salem, Madurai, Sivagangai, Theni, Virudhunagar, and Tirunelveli.
