IIT Madras student gets Rs 4.3 crore offer from top US firm

IIT Madras has once again grabbed headlines with a remarkable pre-placement offer (PPO) for one of its students.

Global trading firm Jane Street has offered an annual package of Rs 4.3 crore to a student for a role based in Hong Kong, marking the highest offer of this placement season at the premier institute. This offer covers salary, bonus, and relocation.

The offer was made to a computer science student from IIT Madras who received a pre-placement offer (PPO) from a high-frequency trading firm.

The student, who had previously interned with the company, is set to assume the role of a quantitative trader in Hong Kong, according to sources.

The lucrative package has sparked excitement across the IIT Madras campus as it represents not only a personal milestone for the student but also underscores the institution’s growing prominence in nurturing world-class talent sought after by top global firms.

Several top companies have made impressive offers at the older IITs this placement season. BlackRock, Glean, and Da Vinci have rolled out packages exceeding Rs 2 crore. Other firms like APT Portfolio and Rubrik have offered over Rs 1.4 crore, while Ebullient Securities and IMC Trading have made offers above Rs 1.3 crore.

Quadeye’s package is close to Rs 1 crore, with Quantbox and Graviton offering around Rs 90 lakh. DE Shaw has offered between Rs 66-70 lakh, Pace Stock Broking Rs 75 lakh, and Squarepoint Capital over Rs 65 lakh. Microsoft and Cohesity have also made offers in the range of Rs 50-40 lakh.

On the first day of placements, big names like Qualcomm, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Bajaj Auto, Ola Electric, Alphonso, and Nutanix participated.

While high early offers don’t guarantee overall placement success, this year’s start looks more promising than the last.
