IIT-M expands free AI courses for school teachers

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) announced that it is expanding SWAYAM Plus free AI courses for all school teachers in India, from Kindergarten to Class XII. Registration for the second phase closes on October 10.

The courses are part of the “AI for All” 2.0 programme. They are offered online in partnership with IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation.

A new course, “AI for Educators,” is specially designed for K-12 teachers. It focuses on AI knowledge and practical tools to improve teaching, assessments, and student engagement.

Other courses include:
AI in Physics – Learn AI tools to solve physics problems.
AI in Chemistry – Apply AI to chemical modeling and predictions.
AI in Accounting – Explore AI for commerce and accounting tasks.
Cricket Analytics with AI – Learn sports data analysis using Python.
AI/ML using Python – Foundational course on AI and machine learning.

Course duration ranges from 25 to 45 hours. They are free, and participants can get a certificate for a small fee through proctored exams. No prior AI or coding experience is needed.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT-M, said at the launch,” AI is reshaping learning. K-12 teachers play a key role in bringing this change to classrooms. Teaching them AI skills strengthens education and contributes to nation-building.”

Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean and SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, said,“Courses are designed by IIT-M experts. They include hands-on activities, real datasets, and case studies. Basic digital literacy and willingness to learn are enough to join.”

SWAYAM Plus currently hosts over 430 courses in fields like engineering, hospitality, BFSI, and IT. More than 3.7 lakh learners have registered so far.

Teachers and aspiring teachers across India can apply to gain AI skills and enhance their teaching methods.
