IIFC Celebrates Third Year with New Courses!

The International Institute for Film and Culture (IIFC), founded by Director Vetri Maaran in 2022 to empower aspiring filmmakers from underprivileged backgrounds, celebrated its third year with an inauguration ceremony on 19.08.2024.

The event marked the launch of two new academic programs: a Bachelor of Science degree in Film Studies and a one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Film Direction.

The ceremony featured esteemed guests like actor Vijay Sethupathi, who inaugurated the new programs, and producer ‘Kalaippuli’ S. Thanu. Vetri Maaran, his wife Aarthi, Professor Rajanayagam (representing Loyola College) and S.M. Valarmathi (Head of visual communication, Vel’s university) were also present.

Current IIFC students Monisha, Prince, and Prem Peter shared their experiences at IIFC, highlighting the institute’s focus on diverse topics like food politics, storytelling based on local contexts, and understanding narratives beyond traditional academic and political frameworks.

Actor Vijay Sethupathi graced the occasion as the Special guest. He commended Vetri Maaran’s vision and urged students to utilize their education to become informed storytellers and share their knowledge for a greater impact.

Producer ‘Kalaippuli’ S. Thanu, a long-time supporter of IIFC, expressed his continued commitment to the institute’s growth and praised its dedication to nurturing diverse voices in cinema.

Director Vetri Maaran’s Vision
The renowned filmmaker emphasized that IIFC was established to empower students to achieve their filmmaking dreams. He stressed the importance of exploring various fields within the industry. Additionally, he announced a “Wildlife Photography” competition in honour of Late.Vetri Duraisamy, one of the founders and a strong supporter of the institute. He also expressed gratitude to all the guests, including Vijay Sethupathi, ‘Kalaippuli’ S. Thanu, RS Infotainment’s Elred Kumar, Professor Rajanayagam, and everyone who has contributed to IIFC’s journey. Aarthi Vetri Maaran delivered the vote of thanks, thanking all those present.
