Home Ministry approves first all-women battalion for CISF

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the formation of the first all-women battalion for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). This historic decision marks a significant step toward gender inclusivity within India’s security forces.

The new battalion will be tasked with providing security at critical infrastructure sites, including airports, metros, and industrial facilities. It is a part of the government’s broader initiative to empower women in the security sector and create equal opportunities in law enforcement roles.

According to officials, the formation of this battalion is a step toward enhancing the role of women in the CISF, which has already seen women personnel serving in various capacities. The battalion will consist of women officers and personnel, trained for specialized duties that include handling security arrangements and crowd control at high-profile locations.

The MHA’s decision is also seen as a move to provide a more diverse and balanced workforce in the security sector, promoting gender equality and representation. The deployment of women in such roles will not only increase their participation in national security but also inspire more women to join the forces in the future.

The CISF is responsible for securing critical national infrastructure and is one of the largest paramilitary forces in the country. This development is expected to encourage other forces to explore more gender-inclusive policies and recruitment strategies.
