HitList Movie Review

A vegan’s surprising evolution into a hunter.

Vijay, a middle-class guy, faces a dramatic turn in his life when his family is kidnapped by a masked man, compelling him to become an unlikely assassin targeting the masked man’s rivals in a twisted game of karmic retribution. As Vijay navigates this perilous journey, the enigma of the masked man’s identity and his motives deepens.

“Hitlist” surprises from the start: Vijay (Vijay Kanishka), a meek IT professional, is thrust into a sinister game orchestrated by a mysterious masked figure. With his family at risk and his life hanging in the balance, Vijay is forced into a role he never imagined—becoming a killer. This stark contrast sets the stage for a thriller that continually pushes boundaries.

The masked man, a shadowy figure with a flair for drama, stands out as the film’s most intriguing element. His motives are a mystery, and his methods are precise. He manipulates Vijay’s psyche, pushing him to embrace the violence he once abhorred. Vijay, guided by the gruff ACP Yazhvendan (Sarathkumar), ventures into a world of shadows and bloodshed.

As the story unfolds, Vijay Kanishka delivers a compelling portrayal of his character’s transformation, from initial timidity to a gradual acceptance of violence. Sarathkumar commands the screen as ACP Yazhvendan, his authoritative presence adding a layer of intensity. The supporting cast, including Ramachandra Raju, Munishkanth, and Sithara, contribute effectively, while Gautham Menon and Smruthi Venkat leave a lasting impression in their brief but impactful cameos.

Directed by the duo Sooryakathir and K. Karthikeyan, “Hitlist” has its standout moments. Skillful camerawork and sound design heighten the suspense, making it a decent thriller perfect for a laid-back afternoon. Despite some predictable elements, the film manages to keep the audience engaged, offering a thrilling ride with a mix of mystery and action.
