High Court rejects Senthil Balaji’s plea against possible police harassment
The Madras High Court has dismissed petitions filed by former minister V. Senthil Balaji and his brother R.V. Ashok Kumar seeking protection from possible police harassment during investigations.
Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan observed that the request was premature, noting that courts cannot prevent investigating agencies from conducting lawful inquiries if allegations require examination.
The petitioners argued that they feared being implicated in ongoing investigations, including a case linked to the alleged attempt to influence a TVK MLA.
The State government opposed the plea, saying it effectively sought immunity from police questioning. Accepting that argument, the court declined to grant the requested relief.
