Heavy Rains predicted for Chennai and surrounding areas over the coming days
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall in Chennai and its surrounding districts over the next few days.
On Thursday, heavy showers are expected to affect 11 districts including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram. These areas, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are likely to experience heavy rainfall on Friday as well.
Saturday’s forecast warns of isolated heavy rains in Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Virudhunagar, and Tenkasi districts. Additionally, parts of Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema are expected to receive heavy showers.
Sunday will see heavy rainfall continuing in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram districts.
The RMC has issued a yellow alert for these regions, with rainfall expected to range from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm, which indicates worsening weather conditions.
In terms of temperature, Karur Paramathi recorded the highest maximum temperature of 34.5°C on Tuesday, while Erode recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 18.0°C.
