GV Prakash’s long pending Adangathey gets a release date

After years of anticipation and various delays, actor-composer G.V. Prakash Kumar’s political thriller, Adangathey, has finally locked in its theatrical release date.

The film is set to hit screens on August 27 coinciding with the Ganesh Chathurthi holiday.

The announcement, made by the makers on Sunday, has brought a wave of relief and excitement to fans who have been eagerly awaiting the film’s release since its initial production stages.

Adangathey, directed by Shanmugam Muthusamy and produced by M.S. Saravanan under Sri Green Productions, has been in the making for nearly eight years.

G.V. Prakash Kumar plays dual roles in Adangathey, serving as both the lead actor and the music composer.

The film also features a stellar supporting cast including Supreme Star Sarath Kumar, Mandira Bedi, Surabhi, Yogi Babu, and Thambi Ramaiah, with a guest appearance by filmmaker-turned-politician Seeman.

Described as a political thriller, the narrative reportedly delves into contemporary political themes, with G.V. Prakash portraying a two-wheeler mechanic whose life intertwines with that of a political leader, essayed by Sarath Kumar.

Director Shanmugam Muthusamy had previously indicated that the film’s genre and its relevance to Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, especially with the 2026 State Assembly Elections approaching, made a mid-year release window ideal.
