GV Prakash Unveils Glimpse of ‘AKU DARKKEY’ – A Cinematic Tribute to the King of Sambarock on His Birthday
On the special occasion of the birthday of legendary Malaysian Indian music icon Darkkey Nagaraja, celebrated music composer GV Prakash Kumar launched the much-awaited glimpse of the upcoming feature film AKU DARKKEY – a powerful musical biopic chronicling the extraordinary journey of the man who pioneered the unique genre of Sambarock.
Produced by Poketplay Films and helmed by director Vicram Lachumanam, AKU DARKKEY is not just a film — it is a celebration of resilience, rhythm, and revolution in the Malaysian Indian independent music scene. The story traces the humble beginnings of Darkkey, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Kuala Lipis with big dreams and nothing in his pocket, and went on to become a cultural icon who shaped generations with his music.
“Aku” means “I Am” in Malay — making the title a bold declaration of identity and legacy, capturing the essence of Darkkey’s fearless voice and enduring presence.
Darkkey, the frontman of the iconic band The Keys, carved his name in musical history with groundbreaking compositions and unforgettable performances, becoming a torchbearer for aspiring Malaysian Indian artists.
