“Guts” Movie review
A Passionate and Ambitious Debut
Guts, the debut film of Rangaraj, is a heartfelt and earnest attempt that boldly explores multiple narrative layers. Featuring Shruti Narayanan—known for her striking role in the Siragadikka Aasai series—as the female lead, the film places her at the heart of a tragic and emotional journey.
The story begins on an emotional note: Rangaraj plays a devoted husband who is fatally attacked while taking his pregnant wife, played by Shruti, to the hospital. His untimely death, followed by his wife’s demise in grief, sets the stage for a poignant tale. Their son grows up to become a sincere police officer determined to uncover the truth behind his parents’ fate.
The film bravely ventures into several social and emotional themes—corporate pollution in farmlands, a sensitive murder case involving a transgender woman, and a flashback-driven love story. Though the screenplay occasionally juggles too much, the ambition to tell a story layered with social relevance is clear and commendable.
Shruti Narayanan delivers a sincere and grounded performance, portraying grief and resilience with maturity. Rangaraj impresses both as an actor and director, especially in emotionally intense scenes. Delhi Ganesh’s brief appearance leaves a strong impact, proving his mastery over subtle screen presence. Performers like Sai Deena, Nancy, Aranthangi Nisha, and Birla Bose also bring authenticity to their roles.
A major highlight is Manoj’s cinematography—each frame feels thoughtfully constructed and visually compelling. Jose Franklin’s music gently complements the emotional beats of the story.
While Guts may not be a revolutionary narrative, it is an honest and emotionally resonant film. It stands out for its sincerity and the director’s vision to go beyond conventional storytelling, making it a passionate debut that shows promise and heart.
