Foreign currency worth Rs. 51.28 lakhs seized by Chennai Air Customs.

Based on intelligence, one Sathakathullah,37, of Tiruchirapalli, who was destined for Dubai by Air Arabia flight G9-472 was intercepted in departure terminal on suspicion of carrying foreign currency. On search of his hand bag, 15000 Saudi Riyals were found concealed in inner fitting of his handbag and four bundles wrapped with black adhesive tape were found inside the bag. On cut opening 26,000 Saudi Riyals and 2400 US Dollars were found recovered. Total currency valued at Rs.  10.06 lakhs was recovered and seized under Customs Act read with FEMA (Export and Import of currency) Regulation, 2015.

Based on intelligence, Mohamed Ali Akbar, 61 of Tiruchirapalli, Mohammed Abdullah, 37 of Theni, Abu Javith, 29 of Chennai and Shajakhan, 57 of Sivaganga, who were  bound for Dubai by  Fly Dubai flight FZ8518, were intercepted after they had cleared Immigration and were proceeding towards security hold area. On their personal search, 34700 Saudi Riyal, 1140 Kuwait Dinarwas recovered from pant pockets and 126000 Saudi Riyals, 2300 US Dollars, 440 Kuwait Dinar and 1050 Oman Riyalwererecovered from the hollow pipes of their stroller bags. Total foreign currency worth Rs. 41.22 lakhs was recovered and seized under Customs Act read with Foreign Exchange Management(Export and Import of Currency) Regulations, 2015.

201700 Saudi Riyals, 4700 US Dollars, 1580 Kuwait Dinar and 1050 Oman Riyal, totallyvalued at Rs. 51.28lakhs was recovered and seized in 5 cases under Customs Act read with FEMA (Export and Export of currency) Regulation,2015.

Further investigation is under progress, according to a press release issued by the Commissioner of Customs, Chennai International Airport.
