First phase voting in Jammu and Kashmir to be held tomorrow

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the first phase of Assembly elections is set to take place on 18th of September. The poll process will be completed in three phases.

16 Assembly Constituencies of four southern districts of Kashmir will go to polls in first phase. Along with these Constituencies, Bijbehara will also go to poll in this phase.

With only a week left for the first phase of assembly elections scheduled to go to polls on September 18th, election campaigning by candidates of various political parties for 24 assembly constituencies in J&K is in full swing.

The 16 assembly seats in Kashmir are spread in Anatnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts. Star campaigners of various political parties are busy in holding rallies and road shows in poll bound areas, leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters.

About 23 lac 27 thousand voters including 5 lac 66 thousand youth are eligible to exercise their electoral franchise in first phase of elections.

As Bijbihara happens to be a key constituency in district Anatnag, a triangular fight is expected among Iltija Mufti of PDP who happens to be the daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Sofi Yousuf of BJP and Bashir Ahmad Veeri of NC congress alliance.

A total of 1 lac 2 thousand 81 voters will decide the fate of these contesting candidates among which 50 thousand 728 are male and 51 thousand 353 are female voters. ECI has set-up 125 polling stations with assured minimum facilities in the constituency. Besides other arrangements adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth and incident free elections.
