“Exam series” Review

“A gripping battle where truth fights corruption.”

The Tamil web series Exam on Prime Video presents an intriguing and ambitious thriller that immediately captures attention with a bold opening twist. Right from the first episode, the story introduces a daring undercover mission in which a Deputy Superintendent of Police is kidnapped before assuming office, and an imposter steps into her role. While this premise demands a leap of faith from viewers, the series rewards patience with an engaging narrative filled with suspense, corruption, and emotional stakes.

At the centre of the story is Jhansi, played with intensity by Dushara Vijayan. Jhansi impersonates officer Maramalli, portrayed by Aditi Balan, as part of a covert mission led by Jayachandran, played by Abbas. Their goal is to expose a large-scale scam involving entrance examinations for prestigious government jobs. Across seven episodes, writer-director A Sarkunam steadily uncovers the intricate workings of the scam, keeping viewers invested in Jhansi’s dangerous mission.

One of the strongest aspects of the series is the detailed portrayal of how competitive examinations can be manipulated through leaked question papers, dummy candidates, corrupt coaching centres, and bribery. The storytelling effectively highlights the vulnerability of systems that are meant to uphold fairness and merit. Backed by creative producers Pushkar and Gayatri, the series builds tension through Jhansi’s constant fear of being exposed while navigating a network filled with hidden threats.

The emotional core of the show also stands out. A touching subplot involving a talented fisherman who loses his opportunity due to corruption serves as a reminder of how deeply these scams affect ordinary people. Jhansi’s own personal struggles further strengthen the emotional connection with the audience.

Although the series occasionally feels stretched, its socially relevant theme, suspense-driven storytelling, and committed performances make it an engaging watch. Dushara Vijayan brings determination and vulnerability to Jhansi, while Aditi Balan and Abbas leave a solid impression in their roles. Overall, Exam succeeds as a gripping crime drama that sheds light on an important issue while keeping viewers entertained throughout.
