Election commission team to visit Chennai on Jan 8 to review Lok Sabha election arrangements

The Election Commission of India is set to visit Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh next week, marking the start of the three-member panel’s review of election preparedness across the country.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel are expected to visit Tamil Nadu on January 7 and 8 and Andhra Pradesh on January 9 and 10, according to an EC source.

The EC is expected to review the preparations for the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and the 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh.

The EC will also review preparations for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, which are expected to be held alongside the Lok Sabha polls. Prior to the EC’s visits, teams of senior EC officers have reviewed preparations over the past few months.

The Lok Sabha elections are expected to be held in April and May. In 2019, the EC had announced the election schedule on March 10, after completing their visits to all states and UTs in the run-up.
