Election Commission extends SIR deadline in 5 states, 1 Union Territory for 1 week
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday extended the deadline for submission of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) across five states and one Union Territory by one week.
The extension applies to Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Uttar Pradesh.
According to the revised schedule, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat will now submit their SIRs by December 19, 2025 (Friday) instead of December 14, 2025 (Sunday).
Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands have been given time until December 23, 2025 (Tuesday), replacing the earlier deadline of December 18, 2025 (Thursday).
Uttar Pradesh, which had the latest original deadline, will now submit its SIR on December 31, 2025 (Wednesday) instead of December 26, 2025 (Friday).
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the state had requested the Election Commission of India to grant an additional two weeks to complete the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in an organised manner and to ensure an accurate and updated electoral roll.
He said that the extension was sought to allow district election officers to re-verify details of deceased, shifted, and absent voters.
