Edappadi K Palaniswami to meet Amit Shah during his Tamil Nadu visit
Senior AIADMK leader and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) is expected to hold discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during Shah’s visit to Tamil Nadu on January 4 and 5.
The meeting is anticipated to take place in Tiruchy on January 5, coinciding with the “Modi Pongal” event organised for around 2,000 women participants.
Amit Shah’s trip to Tamil Nadu forms a key part of the BJP’s election campaign ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls. The visit will cover multiple locations, including Pudukkottai, Tiruchy, and Srirangam, where party leaders plan to engage with grassroots workers and supporters.
According to political analysts, the discussions between EPS and Amit Shah are likely to focus on electoral strategies, alliance coordination, and the BJP-AIADMK partnership in the upcoming elections. The meeting is expected to offer an opportunity for both parties to strengthen their collaboration and plan outreach initiatives aimed at consolidating votes across key constituencies.
The “Modi Pongal” event in Tiruchy will see active participation from women leaders and supporters of the BJP, marking a significant campaign effort to reach out to women voters ahead of the elections. Party sources said the event will also provide a platform to highlight welfare schemes and policies implemented by the Central government, thereby reinforcing the BJP’s presence in Tamil Nadu.
Political observers note that this meeting could play a crucial role in shaping alliance equations in the state. While the AIADMK and BJP have historically collaborated, the current discussions may set the tone for a more coordinated approach in the 2026 polls, particularly in constituencies where the alliance’s combined influence could prove decisive.
BJP leaders have been actively engaging with local party cadres and key stakeholders in Tamil Nadu over the past few months. Shah’s visit, including rallies, public meetings, and one-on-one discussions with state leaders, underscores the party’s intent to intensify its outreach in the state and consolidate support ahead of the elections.
With less than a year remaining for the Assembly elections, political observers are closely monitoring developments, with particular attention on the EPS-Shah meeting, which could signal key decisions regarding seat-sharing arrangements, campaign strategies, and joint electoral messaging between the two parties.
