“DNA” Tamil Movie Review
DNA : A Mystery with Emotional Depth and Strong Performances
DNA opens on a gripping and emotional note at the Keezhkattalai Government Hospital in 2014, where a tragic accident involving an overworked doctor sets off a chain of events. A newborn child is left orphaned after the death of a young couple, and the story then jumps to 2023. Here we meet Anand (Atharvaa Murali), a man trying to rebuild his life after heartbreak. He finds love again in Divya (Nimisha Sajayan), and they soon marry. But their lives take a startling turn when a baby mysteriously appears near Divya—who insists it’s not hers—forcing Anand into a journey of emotional reckoning and shocking revelations.
The film, running at 139 minutes, shines brightest in its emotional core. The first half is deeply engaging, setting up an intimate mystery that grabs the audience’s attention. The subtle interval twist adds to the intrigue, and the second half gains strength as Anand’s quest for answers begins. The narrative smartly touches upon themes of love, trauma, and identity, all while keeping viewers emotionally involved.
Atharvaa delivers one of his finest performances, bringing sincerity and emotional intensity to his role. His portrayal of Anand’s struggle is heartfelt, even as the script occasionally leans on convenient plot devices. Nimisha Sajayan adds great value with a subtle, nuanced performance. The chemistry between the lead pair is warm and believable.
Supporting actors Balaji Sakthivel, Ramesh Thilak, and Rithvika contribute effectively, while Ghibran’s evocative score enhances the film’s emotional texture. Visually, the cinematography stands out, capturing the film’s mood beautifully. Despite the commercial detours—including an out-of-place item number—the film maintains a steady pace, thanks to tight editing.
While DNA doesn’t entirely avoid familiar commercial tropes, it still manages to hold attention with its emotional strength and solid performances. It may not be a genre-defining thriller, but with the right mindset, DNA is a rewarding, emotionally layered film that keeps you invested till the very end.
