DMK MLA and former Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan arrested in case over remarks against CM Vijay

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLA Anitha R. Radhakrishnan was arrested on Friday after the Madras High Court declined to grant him anticipatory bail in a case related to his alleged remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.

The case was registered by the Authoor police in Thoothukudi district following allegations that the Tiruchendur MLA made objectionable and defamatory comments about the Chief Minister during a public speech.

Earlier, hearing the anticipatory bail petition, Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan examined the transcript of the speech submitted by the prosecution and expressed strong disapproval over the language allegedly used.

The judge observed that, as a former minister and a sitting legislator, Radhakrishnan was expected to maintain the dignity of public office. Questioning the nature of the remarks, the court asked whether an elected representative should not show due respect to the office of the Chief Minister.

Following the dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea, police took Anitha Radhakrishnan into custody in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
