DMK confirms exit from INDIA Bloc, signals possibility of new political front

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has formally stated that it is no longer part of the opposition INDIA coalition, marking a significant shift in the political landscape following recent developments in Tamil Nadu. The announcement came as leaders of several opposition parties met in New Delhi to discuss future coordination against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking to reporters in Chennai, DMK spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan said the party had decided to move forward independently after political realignments involving some of its former allies. He indicated that the circumstances that originally brought the party into the INDIA alliance had changed substantially, prompting a reassessment of its position within the coalition.

The DMK chose not to participate in the opposition meeting held in the national capital on Monday. Party leaders maintained that their decision was linked to recent political developments in Tamil Nadu, where former alliance partners have taken positions different from those previously agreed upon within the opposition framework.

While confirming the break from the INDIA bloc, Elangovan stressed that the DMK’s opposition to the BJP remains unchanged. He said the party would continue to evaluate issues on their merits and could cooperate with other political forces when there is common ground on matters of public interest and secular governance.

The DMK leader also suggested that political conditions could eventually lead to the emergence of a separate coalition of parties united by opposition to the BJP. Although no formal initiative has been announced, he indicated that discussions and future political developments could shape the formation of an alternative platform outside the existing INDIA framework.
