Director H. Vinoth says audience will decide censorship debate around Jana Nayagan
Ahead of the release of Jana Nayagan, director H. Vinoth addressed the media and spoke about the challenges faced during the film’s certification process.
Vinoth said the production team did not have sufficient time to contest the 12 cuts suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification while simultaneously preparing for the film’s release. The film ultimately received an ‘A’ certificate, preventing teenage audiences from watching it in theatres.
He said the decision was disappointing for the team but clarified that he was not directing his frustration at the CBFC. According to him, while the team believed they had faced an unfair situation, they lacked adequate grounds to pursue a legal challenge before release.
The director also thanked audiences for supporting the film despite pirated versions circulating online. He said theatre bookings remained strong and appreciated moviegoers for choosing the theatrical experience.
Speaking about Vijay selecting a remake for what is expected to be his final film, Vinoth said the actor wanted a story centred on women’s empowerment, which aligned with his personal vision. He added that Bhagavanth Kesari contained those themes and that he readily accepted the opportunity when Vijay approached him to direct the remake.
