Detailed project reports to be prepared to extend Chennai Metro from Lighthouse to High Court, Tambaram-Guindy-Velacheri

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Monday awarded consultancy contracts for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for Extension of Corridor 4 – Lighthouse to High Court and Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery Corridor Envisioned.

Systra MVA Consulting India Pvt Ltd has been appointed as the consultant for both assignments for a value of Rs 38,20,000 and Rs 96,19,000, respectively, and the study duration is 120 days.

The 7-km Lighthouse to High Court extension is planned to enhance metro connectivity along the Marina beach and also to Secretariat.

The corridor will improve access for both daily commuters and tourists, supporting urban mobility, says a release.

Tambaram–Guindy–Velachery corridor envisioned is about 21 km and aims to integrate the suburbs of Tambaram, Medavakkam, Pallikaranai, Velachery with Guindy Metro station in the corridor 1 of CMRL.

This corridor will facilitate multimodal integration at Tambaram, Medavakkam, Velachery and Guindy, the release said.

The DPRs will comprehensively assess alignment options, ridership potential, multimodal integration, and technical feasibility, forming the basis for informed decision-making and future project implementation, the release said.
