Delhi tightens security ahead of Independence Day
Security arrangements have been stepped up across New Delhi ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
Police and other security agencies have increased surveillance and are conducting additional checks at important locations. Personnel have been deployed at strategic points, while entry and exit routes are undergoing detailed inspections. Public spaces and areas expected to attract large crowds are also being closely monitored.
The heightened security comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address from the Red Fort on August 15.
Mandi House Metro Station and the ITO area have been illuminated in the colours of the national flag as the capital prepares for the celebrations.
The Ministry of Defence has also announced a change in the ceremonial proceedings at the Red Fort. For the first time, Vande Mataram will be performed from the ramparts during the Independence Day programme.
According to Defence Secretary RK Singh, the Prime Minister will reach the ramparts, followed by the playing of the national song while everyone remains standing. The flag will then be unfurled, after which the national anthem will be played.
