Delhi court sends Sonia Gandhi electoral-roll complaint back for fresh consideration
A Delhi court has ordered fresh consideration of a complaint alleging that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s name appeared on an electoral roll before she acquired Indian citizenship.
The court was hearing a revision petition challenging a September 11, 2025 order by a magistrate that had declined to order a probe into the complaint.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne set aside the earlier order, describing it as “non-speaking” and holding that relevant legal requirements had not been adequately considered.
The judge observed that the magistrate had not heard the concerned police officer or called for a status report from the police station. The court also noted that the magistrate had not properly considered the available legal options concerning the complaint.
The matter has now been sent back to the magistrate for a fresh, reasoned decision after hearing the arguments. The next proceedings are scheduled for September 29.
The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and the court’s order does not itself establish that the alleged electoral-roll irregularity occurred.
