Cylone Asani changes track, likely to touch AP coast

Cyclone Asani changed track significantly and is now likely to touch the Andhra Pradesh coast between Kakinada and Visakhapatnam, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday, issuing a “red” warning for the Andhra coast.

The IMD predicted moderate rainfall in most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rain is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over coastal Odisha and adjoining coastal West Bengal on Wednesday.

While on Thursday, moderate rainfall is likely at a few places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal.

Cyclone Asani weakened into a Cyclonic Storm and lay centered about 60 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 180 km south-southwest of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 310 km southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) at 02.30 am on May 11.
