Cyclone Michaung effect: Heavy rain lashes Chennai

Chennai has witnessed heavy rainfall in the last few hours and could witness further spells of showers as Cyclone Michaung continues to impact normal lives.

Heavy rainfall resulted in waterlogging near several metro stations across Chennai.

Despite the waterlogging, metro services began normally at 5 am. Passengers have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has asked people to stay indoors and not go out unless necessary as several roads were inundated.

Michaung, which was over southwest Bay of Bengal, most north-northwestwards with a speed of 8 kmph during the past six hours.

It lay centred about 230 kilometres east-northeast of Puducherry, 190 kilometres east-southeast of Chennai, 310 kilometres southeast of Nellore, 410 kilometres south-southeast of Bapatla and 430 kilometres south-southeast of Machilipatnam.
