CM Vijay vows to protest TN’s rights, launches sharp attack on DMK and AIADMK at first post-victory rally

Chief Minister Vijay used his first major public rally after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s electoral victory to defend his party’s rise to power, reject allegations of political horse-trading, and intensify his criticism of both the DMK and AIADMK.

Addressing supporters at a public gathering in Tiruchirappalli on Monday evening, Vijay asserted that TVK’s success was achieved through the support of voters and not through political manoeuvring. Responding to allegations that the party relied on defections or backroom negotiations to secure power, he maintained that the mandate reflected the people’s desire for political change.

The Chief Minister accused the state’s traditional Dravidian parties of failing to meet public expectations and argued that Tamil Nadu’s political landscape had entered a new phase. He claimed that the electorate had chosen an alternative to the established parties and expressed confidence that TVK would justify the trust placed in it by voters.

Vijay was particularly critical of what he described as corruption and misuse of power in previous administrations. He alleged that politics centred on personal gain and misuse of public resources could not continue indefinitely and suggested that voters had delivered a verdict against such practices.

Law and order emerged as another major theme of the speech. Vijay contended that public safety had become a matter of concern under the previous government and promised that his administration would focus on strengthening governance and ensuring a safer environment for citizens. He said the government would work to uphold democratic values while maintaining effective administration.

The Chief Minister also reiterated his commitment to protecting Tamil Nadu’s rights within the federal structure of the country. Stressing that his government would stand firm on issues concerning the state’s interests, Vijay said there would be no compromise when it came to safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s rights and powers.

Throughout the address, Vijay positioned TVK as a distinct political force separate from both the DMK and AIADMK. He argued that the election outcome reflected growing public demand for a different style of governance and called on party workers and supporters to remain focused on delivering results.

The rally marked Vijay’s first major public interaction after assuming office and provided an opportunity for him to outline the priorities of his administration while reinforcing his party’s political message. The event drew significant attention as observers looked for indications of how the new government intends to approach governance and its relationship with the opposition.
