Chief Minister Vijay’s first visit to Perambur as MLA: Statewide ration card distribution, new office & more

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to kick off the government’s long-awaited ration card distribution initiative on Monday with an event in Perambur, the Assembly constituency he continues to represent after becoming Chief Minister.

The programme will begin with Vijay handing over ration cards to the first ten eligible beneficiaries, marking the formal launch of the scheme across the State.

The visit is significant as it will be his first official engagement in Perambur since taking office. Although he was elected from both Perambur and Tiruchy East in the Assembly election, he later retained Perambur and resigned from the Tiruchy East seat.

During the visit, the Chief Minister will also inaugurate a revamped digital platform for the Perambur MLA office, designed to help residents access government services, certificates and welfare benefits. A separate constituency-focused mobile application intended to improve grievance redressal and public service delivery will also be launched.

Vijay is further scheduled to inspect the Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus depot in the area to review commuter amenities and infrastructure before interacting with local residents and participating in welfare-related programmes.

Officials said Perambur remains a priority for the government because of its large industrial workforce and dense residential population. Security has been tightened ahead of the visit, with police conducting convoy rehearsals and implementing traffic management plans around the venue.
