Centre plans NDPS law changes to tighten action against drug networks

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the Centre is preparing amendments to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act to eliminate legal loopholes that are allegedly being exploited by organised drug trafficking networks.

Addressing the 10th apex-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD), Shah called for a tough approach against drug suppliers and traffickers. He urged state governments to submit their recommendations on the proposed amendments being prepared by the Finance Ministry so that existing gaps in the law can be effectively addressed.

He stressed that stronger legal provisions would help enforcement agencies intensify the fight against narcotics and dismantle organised drug syndicates.
