CBSE issues revised guidelines for three language policy
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released detailed guidelines for implementing the three-language policy in affiliated schools from the 2026-27 academic session.
The new framework, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, explains how Indian languages will be taught across different classes while ensuring that students already enrolled are not affected by sudden curriculum changes.
The clarification follows an earlier announcement making the study of three languages compulsory for Class 9 students from July 1, with at least two of them being Indian languages.
The policy has drawn legal challenges from some students and parents, who have approached the courts seeking relief after the earlier notification.
