Cabinet approves 7 schemes worth about Rs 14,000 crore for agricultural sector

The Union Cabinet on Monday, September 2, approved around ₹14,000 crore outlay for seven big-ticket programmes related to the farming sector, including a ₹2,817-crore digital agriculture mission and a ₹3,979-crore scheme for crop science.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made these announcements after the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A ₹2,291-crore program for strengthening agricultural education and management has been approved, the minister said, adding that a ₹1,702-crore scheme for sustainable livestock health and production has also been cleared.

The Cabinet also approved another significant scheme worth ₹860 crore for sustainable horticulture development.

Other decisions taken by the Cabinet include strengthening Krishi Vigyan Kendra (₹1,202 crore) and Natural Resource Management (₹1,115 crore).

The total allocation for all seven programs adds up to over ₹13,960 crore.
