The Election Commission on Wednesday announced that by-elections to 12 Rajya Sabha seats, including 10 that were vacated due to the members being elected to the Lok Sabha in June, would be held on September 3.

The 12 seats across nine states include one from Telangana that fell vacant when MP K Keshava Rao resigned on July 5 and one from Odisha that became vacant when Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Mamata Mohanta resigned on July 31 and joined the BJP.

These include Sarbananda Sonowal from Assam, Deepender Singh Hooda from Haryana, K C Venugopal from Rajasthan and Union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Piyush Goyal from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, respectively.
