Bihar seeks to raise quota to 65% after tabling caste survey
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Tuesday told the Assembly that he wants to increase reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, as well Other Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes.
The reservation is meant for government jobs and educational institutions.
This excludes the Centre’s 10 per cent reservation for individuals from economically weaker sections.
Nitish was speaking in a debate after a detailed report on the caste survey commissioned by his government was tabled.
He said that reservations for OBCs needed to be raised from 50 to 65 per cent, while for the SCs and STs, which together account for a 17 per cent quota, it should be raised to 22 per cent.
