Art has no religion: AR Rahman responds to Ramayana trolls

Music Composer AR Rahman has broken his silence regarding the social media backlash over his involvement in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana.

In a recent interview, Rahman emphasized that knowledge and art should transcend religious boundaries, noting that he was raised studying Indian epics at a Brahmin school.

Addressing the “divisiveness” often seen in modern discourse, Rahman stated that the story of Ramayana is a universal collection of moral values that belongs to the whole world.

He is collaborating with the world-renowned Hans Zimmer for the project, promising a musical landscape that blends Indian classical roots with global cinematic sounds.

Rahman’s response—”Hans Zimmer is Jewish, I am Muslim, and Ramayana is Hindu”—has been widely shared as a powerful statement on cultural unity in the arts.
