Anupama Parameswaran opens up about controlling relationship, says she is not a gold digger
Anupama Parameswaran has spoken at length about a past relationship, describing how she became increasingly uncomfortable with what she characterised as controlling and narcissistic behaviour.
In an interview with Dhanya Varma, the actor said the relationship lasted around two years and that discussions about marriage began unusually early. According to Anupama, engagement plans were being discussed just three months after the relationship began.
She said she eventually delayed the engagement because she had a strong feeling that the relationship was not based on genuine love. Anupama also addressed criticism from people who had labelled her a gold digger, saying she believed marrying her former partner could ultimately have resulted in divorce.
The actor said she felt that marriage and children were being used as reasons to pressure her to step away from acting. She recalled suggesting that there was no need to rush into marriage and that concerns about having children could be addressed through options such as egg freezing.
Anupama said she repeatedly postponed the engagement because she did not feel at peace in the relationship. Instead, she described feeling anxious and uncertain about the future.
She has not publicly identified the former partner. After returning to social media, she has spoken about recovering from a relationship in which she felt restricted. She also previously said she was not allowed to promote her successful film Dragon or post on social media without permission.
Rumours about Anupama’s personal life had surfaced earlier, including speculation linking her with actor Dhruv Vikram after an unverified photograph circulated online. The two later appeared together in connection with Bison Kaalamaadan, which further fuelled dating speculation.
