Another setback for AIADMK as M R Vijayabhaskar resigns as MLA

AIADMK has suffered another political setback after former Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar resigned as an MLA. The Karur legislator submitted his resignation to Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar at the State Secretariat on Monday.

His departure marks the sixth resignation from the AIADMK legislative party since the Assembly elections, further reducing the party’s strength in the House after its electoral defeat.

Previously, four AIADMK legislators resigned and later joined the ruling TVK. In another recent development, C. Vijayabaskar left the AIADMK two weeks ago and is expected to formally join Chief Minister Vijay’s party.

M.R. Vijayabhaskar served as Transport Minister during the tenure of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Although he was defeated by DMK leader V. Senthil Balaji in the 2021 Assembly election from Karur, he regained the constituency in the 2026 polls.

Following his resignation, the number of vacant Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu has risen to seven, including the Tiruchirappalli East constituency, which was vacated earlier by Chief Minister Vijay.
